Autumn in the Pallars: mushrooms, rutting stags and colour
For many regulars, autumn is the best time to visit the Pallars Jussà: mild temperatures, colourful forests, and two stars very much of the season.
Mushroom season
The Pallars's forests are wild-mushroom-picking territory in autumn. You don't need to be an expert to enjoy the walk, though it's worth being careful when identifying species.
The deer rut in Boumort
The Boumort National Game Reserve is one of the best places in Catalonia to hear (and sometimes see) the deer rut in autumn, with guided ecotourism outings.
The colours of the forest
Routes like the one around the Estany de Montcortès or the area around the Castell de Mur change completely in October and November.
Fewer people, the same landscapes
Places like Mont-rebei, very busy in summer, are enjoyed in a much quieter way in autumn.
